I love to walk through the zoo just to get my steps in. Today I had fun doing that, even though the zoo was crowded and loud.
It was fun just looking at the animals chilling out!
The rhino in his pool. Adorable!
I love this rhino. I think his name is Thomas. He runs around a lot playing with his ball and showing off. But today he was just lolling in the pool. I love him. Those big ears! How sweet.
Luna, swimming in her pond.
I love the polar bears, as I have confided, and I never miss a chance to visit them. Luna always swims the same way. She has her routine. It is pretty much just like mine at L.A. Fitness. Just enjoy the water! That is my philosophy and it serves me well. All I do at the pool is kind of loll around and talk to my fellow swimmers. The important thing is just to be in the water. That is what I have come to believe.
Here is a quick video I took of my friend Thomas the rhino in his pool.
It was funny, moms kept coming by with their toddlers, and the toddlers just had no interest and no idea. People should bring older kids to the zoo but nobody does — everyone just brings these really little kids, and these kids have no idea of the majesty of what they are seeing. This unbelievable animal.
I miss the elephants at the Buffalo Zoo. However if any animal can be a consolation prize, surely it is the rhinoceros. What an amazing beast. With personality, too. Aware of you. Showing off for you. The Buffalo Zoo is in the forefront of global efforts to breed rhinos and safeguard them. As well we should. The world would not be the same without these wonderful prehistoric-looking creatures. What privilege it is just to look on them. That I can walk around the block and see a rhinoceros — I cannot get over that.
Then there was the lion, Tiberius!
He was sleeping on his back the way Jeoffry does when he is warm. Paws in the air. It was hard to capture the charm of it on video. Yet that charm was there, believe you me.
A docent was around telling people about Tiberius and about lions. Someone asked which animals are the lions’ predators. I listened in, because I was curious about that as well.
“Hyenas,” the docent said. Then she ran out of gas because she added, “And humans” — because we are always the villains — and after that could not come up with anything.
I get the idea the lions have it pretty good in the wild. The same cannot be said of most creatures.
Everyone had it pretty good today in the zoo.
It was just a nice peaceful day!
