There is this drama I have witnessed several times in the polar bear exhibit at the Buffalo Zoo. I caught it on video.
What happens is, our adorable Luna goes swimming, the the male polar bear who shares the exhibit with her paces back and forth, restlessly, keeping an eye on her.
The first time I saw this play out was last winter, in February or March. I kind of miss the bad weather, you know? Back then it was just me and the animals.
A Zoo docent has confided in me that Luna and her mate are happy together. It sure looks that way. It is funny, the flirty way Luna has in the pool. She smiles and looks adorable as she takes her leisurely turns around the pool. She swims with great enjoyment — as I do, I have to say. I do exactly what she does, flip over on my back, then just drift around in the water.
It is stunning to see these animals up close. You do not appreciate how huge a polar bear is until he comes walking right up to the window, as this bear does.
Those feet!
One day he was napping.
Don’t you wish he were tame? Wouldn’t it be amazing to have him as a pet? I am just saying.
Here is a video I took in March.
Happy polar bears.
Love is in the air!
