Leith, what a schedule that was that Maddie had -- and still has, I imagine! We always hear about soccer moms and hockey moms and maybe we should be hearing about choir moms! I guess if you're going to be serious about anything, it comes at a price. This is the first organized (let alone serious) choir I have ever sung with, so it's all new to me. Thank you for adding much-needed perspective! Especially the part about keeping the Queendom running smoothly... LOL so true!

Oh my goodness Mary. You are officially my go -to -person for inspirations. I have also admired our soprano section and have considered voice lessons. I recently told friends that our soprano section is the powerhouse of the St. Louis Choir. I used to be a high soprano in high school and that was in Frank’s choir! I need to find my old voice again and maybe YouTube or AI is the place to go. Thank you!

Fa-la-la-laha-ha-ha-ha! Such a great column today.!! You brought back all the memories of my daughter, Maddie, being head chorister at St. Paul's Episcopal Cathedral in Buffalo. For 6 years I shuttled her back and forth for Wed. night rehearsals, weekly Evensongs, and up to 2-3 services on Sundays! Add in the funerals and weddings and memorials, and it completes the set. But this season of Christmas is what really tugs at my heartstrings. I miss all these pieces you mentioned and special arrangements for the holidays. Maddie was, and still is, a high soprano. (she continues singing at The Cathedral of All Saints in Albany, NY.) And yes, it does come with a certain "majesty." However, I am more akin to the warm and fuzzy altos of a choir, where I fit in nicely. These are the people who keep the Queendom running smoothly and stand by, never blinking an eyelash during the bouts of soprano drama!! Anyway, thank you, Mary, for sharing this with us. There is nothing like being a part of a great choir. When I joined one for the first time...I think I was 6...it never left my blood. Everybody sing!
