My Goodwill Table Linens Haul
A Mexican tablecloth, avocado napkins and Show House dreams
My visit to the Junior League Decorators’ Show House has filled my head with ideas. Visiting Goodwill yesterday, I began thinking about my dining room.
I saw these vintage table linens and I grabbed them! And when I went home I chose this one tablecloth and put it on the table. That is it in the picture above! It is a Mexican-themed tablecloth from the ‘50s or ‘60s. I would say the 1960s. It has pictures of men in sombreros playing guitars, and ladies in Mexican dresses dancing.
The plates are classic old American china showing Independence Hall in Philadelphia. I got them from my mother. They might seem a strange choice for the tablecloth, however they were what I had, and I think the navy blue makes them work.
The placemats are Martha Stewart and, again, were what I had. I needed to put them there because we were going to eat in a couple of minutes.
The avocado green napkins — I got them at Goodwill along with the tablecloth.
I am going to start setting my dining room table even when it is not mealtime. That is a secret I took away from the Decorators’ Show House.
They have these beautiful tables all set! For instance, this one on the third floor.
Who did that room? It appears to be Bhakti Sharma from the Biba Studio. The room is called Orange You Glad You Are Here. I should name my dining room something!
I like the casual nature of the table. No chargers. Just pretty china scattered around, and those bright purple flowers.
I had flowers that my friend Janet had brought over for Easter. These flowers are holding up beautifully! We put them in a green pitcher I had, and the green goes beautifully with the Also I like the orange theme. My dining room is dark and needs brightening.
Plus, at Goodwill I also scored an orange-themed tablecloth and matching napkins! In “The Artist’s Way” this would be called synchronicity.
I really am trying to jazz up my living space. When I was a kid I was obsessed with home decor. I would work out color palettes and try to try them out in my corner of the big bedroom I shared with my sisters. I longed for a space of my own to decorate. At one point out of desperation I redecorated the basement. My mother rolled her eyes and let me do it.
Over the years I got so busy with other things that I dropped the ball on this particular passion. I want to find it again!
Here is a way to gamify things. That is a concept I love, gamify.
Perhaps every week I will change the look of my dining room!
This week can be Mexican Fiesta. If anyone can come up with something more clever, perhaps in Spanish, let me know.
Next week can be the orange theme. I can call it Orange You Glad You Went to the Decorators’ Show House.
Or, alternatively:
