It is not Groundhog Day but you would not know that here in Buffalo.
I saw a groundhog today and he saw his shadow!
Here is the little fellow.
The animals at Forest Lawn Cemetery are not shy. You can see deer up close, groundhogs up close, geese up close. Nobody cares. The wildlife could not care less. They have had a whole summer to get used to people.
Does anyone else ever get worried, getting too close? I fear the deer may kick me. I don’t know why, it just strikes me that the animal might suddenly realize the power it has. So I keep my distance.
I feel safer around groundhogs. One thing that fascinates me about this little creature is, he has any number of burrows from which to choose. You start looking around for groundhog burrows, you see them everywhere!
Once I saw a groundhog coming out of its burrow. It made this hilarious noise. Like the Three Stooges would make, is the best way I can think of to describe it. Nyaa nyaa nyaa. A loud bustling sound. Then the groundhog came out of its burrow.
The groundhog I saw today was not in any hurry to go back underground, into that cozy burrow beneath the gazebo. He looks around, he stretches. You can see him see his shadow. What that means at this point in the year, I do not know and I do not want to know.
It was a crazy morning today with the weather. That dramatic sky! Today was and still is a moody mix of sun, clouds, and showers.
Soon this will be us….
Hahaa… that is an oldie but goodie I took several years ago before church. I go to St. Anthony of Padua as I may have mentioned, and it is right next to City Hall. That is City Hall as seen from Seventh Street. I had to stop and get a picture.
That weak weird Buffalo sun.
Our crazy seasons!
