Visit now! And tell our city forefathers, "Domo arigato"
On the Delaware Park Ring Road, by the Point of the Meadow restrooms that are never finished, may be found the Japanese Tree Lilac.
A whole grove of them!
Now is the time to visit. The aroma is unbelievable.
I am lucky to have several friends who have led me to a greater appreciation of Japanese culture. My artist friend Cindra Jean McLaughlin lived in Japan for several decades and is always advising me on which Japanese inks to buy which, you know me, I love my inks. My friend Paula Hinz was instrumental and starting Buffalo’s Japanese-themed Cherry Blossom Festival.
I have been cataloguing some of the trees in Delaware Park, using my handy Seek app, and I am finding all kinds of Japanese trees!
Our Japanese cherry trees are the most famous, however I have also found Japanese maple trees, ginkgo trees, Japanese snowflake trees — and these Japanese lilac trees.
Someone clearly once cared deeply about Delaware Park and planted these Japanese groves. Domo arigato, city forefathers!
Here is more stunning views of our Japanese lilac trees.
What are you waiting for?
